Meet Steve Johnson, the new Director of Kayman Direct. Steve is an accomplished automotive professional with a highly motivated personality and an extensive background in sales and operations. He has a proven track record of building, leading, and motivating successful teams, as well as driving positive customer service results.
Steve has experience in all phases of dealership operations, including sales, variable operations, finance, business development center, and call center management. He has a multi-faceted sales training development and delivery, process development and improvement, employee recruiting and development, retail auto sales strategies exploiting up-to-date trends, business-to-business sales, and account development and management.
Steve’s work history is impressive. From 2013 to September 2019, he was a Regional Sales Training Specialist at Larry H. Miller Automotive in the Greater Denver Area. He developed sales staff in the Rocky Mountain region and was directly responsible for 19 stores in Colorado and New Mexico. He consulted with dealership GMs and GSMs on sales operations and the implications for sales staff development. He evaluated sales performance and its overall impact on the financial performance of the dealership, developed and executed plans to mitigate and improve. Steve delivered sales training programs in both individual and group settings, including field training, classroom facilitation, and informal learning channels such as on-the-job shadowing and coaching. He presented information using a variety of instructional techniques and formats, such as role-playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, and lectures. Steve monitored the effectiveness of training within the assigned region as well as the adoption and usage of tools and programs. He also recruited and led onboarding activities to accelerate the effectiveness of newly hired sales associates.
Before working at Larry H. Miller Automotive, Steve was a Sales Manager at Phil Long Dealerships in the Greater Denver Area from 2011 to 2013. He rapidly progressed from Sales Associate to Sales Manager to Business Development and demonstrated the ability to achieve and grow sales in multiple positions. He developed a strategy and process with a proven ability to implement and grow new business models. Steve recruited, trained, and mentored sales staff, grew individual sales staff results with direct coaching, and conducted motivational and effective sales meetings.
Before joining the automotive industry, Steve was a Senior Sales Manager at Mido Printing in the Greater Denver Area from 1989 to 2010. He maintained and aggressively grew customer base, was responsible for account management, customer needs analysis, project scoping, production quality, and follow-up.
